Made in Albuquerque New Mexico. Top was finished in 2021 and the quilting is still a work in progress!

Top completed 06/2022.
I decided to make a large quilt, using only 1/4 of the original pattern. Fuzzy math, but I like the difference!

Where did you sew your Aviatrix - in my home sewing room in Ann Arbor and at our cottage in Tawas City
Date finished - December 31, 2021
… Lots of thoughts - I don't make many quilts with solids so this was a great opportunity to expand my fabric choices. I ended up buying a kit online and was happy with the color selection. I really enjoyed the quilt along and posting pictures of my progress on instagram @apiecedgarden if your interested. I wasn't fond of making the center block (I just don't enjoy making templates, but I'm happy with the result).

My true self came out in the fabric I chose for the back. I love bold and bright fabric and the back reflects it. On one of our trips upnorth, we stopped at one of my fabric shops, Bittersweet Quilt Shop in Pinconning. It's in an old church and a great place to stop before getting some cheese in town. Anyway - Tina, the owner has a whole room of 108" quilt backing fabric. I looked through them and was almost going to buy one and then I saw this fabric, it's not 108". It's actually two fabrics since they didn't have enough of one for the whole back. I'm really happy with it and as with all my quilts it's reversible.

Debbie Talley's quilt in use
I'm keeping this quilt and it's on a bed at our cottage.

Finally located the quilt! It's been quilted but needs binding and label now.

Machine pieced (center blocked was hand- pieced so I didn’t have to redo it multiple times), all from my stash, and machine quilted at my home in Livonia Michigan.
It is a one and only because it was a lot of work but it was also a lot of fun and the group challenge kept me focused and motivated to finish it. I put a world image panel on the back to remind us of all the places we could go!

Aviatrix Migration 2021 : completed this quilt for a 5000 mile road trip to Western National Parks with my son in a camper we renovated. Fabrics were all from my stash with a few border changes to highlight a paintspot print that had been waiting for the right project.

I finished the Aviatrix top but have not quilted it yet, mostly because I don’t have a backing for it!

Made in Farmington Hills. Top completed in early July 2021, and then longarm machine quilted by Laura Jarvis of Kootsi Quilting. A wedding gift Sept. 25, 2021, for my nephew, John Brown, and his wife, Val. They live in northern IL.
I wanted to participate in the quilt-along because it is a fun and colorful quilt. I wanted to have someone to give it to since we didn’t need it for our home. I also knew the format of a quilt along would help me work steadily to finish it. Val liked the pattern and enjoys color. John didn’t give an opinion.
Since their bed is a king size, I added a few borders to increase the dimensions. The fish border is a nod to John, who loves fishing. I saw photos of flying fish and designed the fish block planning to use fabrics from the other rounds. I ran short of a couple fabrics but found close substitutes.
I used my seam ripper a lot in the first few rounds since I neglected to read the directions thoroughly, but it went together perfectly once I did.
Val loves it and appreciates that someone made it specifically for them. I put a care instructions on the label and only hope their two golden retrievers don’t sleep with them.

I gave this quilt to my daughter. She is into the farm house style so is starting to appreciate my stuff a bit. But the cats really liked it.
I was up to row 3 or 4 when I decided the mistake I made in the medallion just had to be fixed. I recut the pieces and made a new one. I think the bad one is the label.

This quilt was finished in May 2021. I used all my favourite bright and bold fabrics for this quilt. Using fabrics that has been waiting in my stash for years, for that special quilt. I thoroughly enjoying every moment making this quilt in the Sewalong.

Worked as part of your qal. Was my first medallion. Liked the way the qal was structured.

Rainbow-Aviatrix, made in Ann Arbor and Chesaning, Michigan 2021
Basted but not quilted
I consider this one to be my favorite Aviatrix, but it has to share this place in my heart with the improv version I made. It is entirely made from teeny-tiny scraps and took forever and ever to cut, because every single piece was cut individually.

I had these fabrics sitting on my shelf for years, just to make sure I wouldn‘t forget the color combination, because I find it so pretty. Originally, I just wanted to use just the teal-ish and coral-salmon fabrics, but somehow, the navy and pinks sneaked in

My first Aviatrix. Made 2019 in Valencia, Spain, where I sewed exclusively kits.
I call it ‚The Original‘, as I sticked mostly to the instructions.
